Goalkeepers are the most eminent positions in any football team. There are many prominent goalkeepers in the world who have made excellent performances over the years and played an important role behind the winning of the team. Goalkeepers like Iker Casillas, Gianluigi Buffon, Manuel Neuer and Peter Cech are some of the big names in the industry. Often, good football players are often paid millions of dollar per year. Let us find out who are the highest paid football goalkeepers in the world.

10. Salvatore Sirigu, PSG, £50,000 per week

The 28 year-old Italian goalkeeper plays for French club Paris Saint Germain and the Italy national football team. He was voted twice as the Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year and have won three title winning seasons in Ligue 1, France. Sirigu has spent most of his international career as substitute, however he is considered as the successor of the 37 year-old Gianluigi Buffon who will be retired anytime soon.

9. Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Barcelona, £55,000 per week

The German youngster who is now playing for Spanish Club Barcelona played all the cup games in a treble winning campaign with Barcelona. With the weekly wage of £55,000, he is one of the top paid goalkeepers in the world


8. David De Gea, Manchester United, £55,000 per week

David De Gea is a Spanish footballer who is now playing for Manchester United. De Gea was lured by Manchested United for a transfer fee of £17.8 million in 2011 after he has been playing for Atletico Madrid for three years. At the young age of 24 years old, De Gea has prepared himself to be the heir to Iker Casillas as Spain’s long-term goalkeeper. In September 2015, De Gea singed a new four-year deal with Manchester United after his move to Real Madrid has fallen apart. The new deal is worth £200,000 per week, with the huge rise, De Gea will soon to be the highest paid goalkeeper in the planet next year.

7. Gianluigi Buffon, Juventus, £60,000 per week

Buffon is the Captains for both Serie A club Juventus and the Italian National Team. The 37 year-old veteran has been regarding as the greatest goalkeepers of all time and he was also named by Pele in the FIFA 100 list of the world’s greatest living players in 2014. On top of that he won IFFHS World’s Best Goalkeeper four times. Buffon has been the highest paid goalkeeper. Despite Buffon took a pay cut in 2012 to stay with Juventus, he is remained in the top 10 highest paid goalkeeper in the world.


6. Hugo Lloris, Tottenham, £70,000 per week

At number 6 is Hugo Lloris, the French footballer who plays as a goalkeeper and captains for both Tottenham and the French national team. He is famous for his lightning reflexes, good decision making and leadership.

5. Petr Cech, Arsenal, £100,000 per week

Cech is the highest-paid goalkeeper in Arsenal history by getting a matching weekly salary at his previous club Chelsea. During his career with Chelsea for 11 years, he won Premier League title, UEFA Cup and Champions League. Cech made his decision to leave his former club Chelsea after his realised that he was no longer the first-choice keeper.


4. Manuel Neuer, Bayern Munich, £110,000 per week


The Bayern Munich first choice goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer has been described as a “sweeper-keeper due to his unique style of playing. His quick reflexes, excellent shot-stopping abilities, accurate control and distribution of the ball make him one of the top 10 best goalkeepers in 2015. The 29 year-old German, also plays for Germany national team and he is the goalkeeper behind Germany world cup winning in 2014.


3. Joe Hart, Manchester City, £120,000 per week


The English goalkeeper who plays for Manchester City and the England National Team holds the record for the most Premier League Golden Glove awards (four). Last December, the Manchester City first-choice goalkeeper sealed a bumper new deal making him the third highest-paid goalkeeper on the planet.

2. Victor Valdes, Manchester United, £150,000 per week (shared between Manchester United and AS Monaco)

After spending 12 years of his carrier with Barcelona, Valdes was on a free transfer list in 30 June 2014. The 33-year old Spanish goalkeeper agreed personal terms to move to Ligue 1 AS Monaco side before his terms with Barcelona end. However after Valdes had a right knee injury which he was expected to be out of action for the first part of the season, Monaco decided to break their pre-contract agreement with Valdes. In return, Valdes urged Monaco to pay compensation for backtracking. After months of negotiations, Monaco agreed to let Valdes free to sign a new deal at old Trafford and Monaco will share his salary with united, making Valdes getting a total of £150,000 per week pay from Monaco and Manchester United (reported to pay £60,000 per week). Valdes’ days in Old Trafford was not smooth-sailing either, as he refused to play in a reserve game which caused Manchester United Manger Van Gaal placed him on the transfer list.

1. Iker Casillas, Real Madrid, £165,000 per week


Iker Casillas began his youth career in Real Madrid, he won five La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey titles, four Supercopa de Espana titles, three UEFA Champions League titles, two UEFA Super Cups, two Intercontinental Cups and the FIFA Club World Cup. Casillas won the IFFHS World’s Best Goalkeeper Award for a record five consecutive years. Life is not easy for the 34-year-old Spanish Goalkeeper, as he was forced to leave Real Madrid after he spent 16 years with the club. On 11 July 2015, Casillas signed a two year deal with Porto with a 50% pay cut. With a pay cut, it is believed that Casillas will no longer be the highest paid goalkeeper in the planet in future, however, the chances of him staying in the top 10 highest paid goalkeeper is very high.
